About Life Project
Takahiro Suzuki and Hironari Kubota, two Japanese artists, will give a special performance together. This is an exhibition about the spirit and energy of the two artists.
Takahiro has been writing the Japanese word "IKIRO", which means "be alive", everyday since 1997. Hironari will create a sculpture from a rotating car, a Trabant, and will perform to Japanese music.
Takahiro and Hironari have similar backgrounds; they both worked as construction workers in Japan when they were younger and have also both travelled to many countries for their own projects. They met by chance in Berlin in 2006 .
Takahiro will continue to write the word "IKIRO" throughout the exhibition at IKIRO Museum.
Hironari will perform at the beginning and end of the exhibition (10th/11th/12th April, 26th/27th/28th June).
The performances will take place as follows:Takahiro 12:00 - 18:00. Hironari from 18:00.
Takahiro and Hironari will also give a kind of ritualistic performance together. For example Takahiro will write "IKIRO" on Hironari's body.
Takahiro will shave Hironari's hair into the shape of "IKIRO" on 12th April.
After the exhibition opening Hironari will be away from Berlin, but he will keep his "IKIRO" hairstyle and pictures will be shown in the exhibition and updated on the website www.ikiro.org. A live film of Takahiro writing "IKIRO" in the exhibition will also be shown on the website via webcam.
When Hironari returns to Berlin, he will perform for three days and, at the end, Takahiro will shave Hironari's hair totally.
